AMP show

In room one we have been writing recounts. I enjoyed pair assessing. Our learning intention was we are learning to describe. Our success criteria was to add some long and short sentences, use juicy verbs to start a sentence, use adjectives and adverbs, use a simile, keep to the main idea in each paragraph and edit for spelling and punctuation.

AMP show
Handing in our tickets, we sat in the cart. Excited and nervous, I kept my hands and feet inside the cart it all times just like the ticket man had told us. As the cart Rumble through the doors, I felt anxious about what was going on. It was midnight blue, then. A green ghost jumped out at me. I was so hot then a spray of water came down on me and it was refreshing but it gave me a fright. Then a relief I saw light!

After the ghost train we got a crispy potato. They were like Hot chips. They was so crispy.

We went to the crystal shop. I got a moonstone necklace My mum told me that if you put it in the Moonlight it will glow my nana also told me that if you put it by your bed it will take away bad dreams.

Neighbor sleepover

In the Holidays My neighbors and I had a sleepover. It was at my house and we had pizza for dinner and we had  passion fruit cheese cake for desert then it was bedtime. We stayed up until 10:30 pm and we still couldn't get to sleep so we  listened to sleep music and it worked for me but the others I don't know about. It was extremely hard to get to sleep because if you woke up you were not the only one awake  everybody else was awake and they were trying to wake up anybody who was asleep by talking. Then in the morning I was the only one sleeping in and the funny thing is I was the only one that got to sleep that night. We had pancakes, raspberries, ice cream, banana and maple syrup for breki.

Going to lake Rotoiti

In the holidays my family and I went to lake Rotoiti. We stayed at my mum and dads friends batch with them. They lived so close to the lake and so one morning we went to go on their kayaks. It was my first time ever going on a kayak. sometimes we got stuck in trees in the water it was so funny. Most of the time we went on my dads friends boat to the hot pools and they stunk like crazy. There was a slide at the end of a jettie going down into the lake and I went down once because it was too cold. On the last day we went on the biscuit and  there were swans and they were chasing us and on the way back the biscuit started to sink because we were going too slow. We were screaming so loud. It was so much fun.

Speeches

This week we presented our speeches. I felt nervous and I had the butterflies. We had to include our pepeha, we had to have a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, speak at our own pace, look up at the crowd, use expression and be confident. Our speeches needed to be persuasive and had to include a rhetorical question. My speech was on caged chickens should be banned oh but you're probably thinking she's already done it on caged chicken should be banned but it's different. Oh well if you don't believe me read this one.

Tihei mauri ora
Ko pepeha ki ahau

Ko Titirangi Te maunga
Ko Taruheru Te awa
Ko Horouta Te waka
Ko St Mary's star of the sea of the sea marae
No turanganui-a kiwa ahau

Ko Hato Maria toku kura
Ko Isabelle ahau
No reira, tena koutou,
tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Would you like to be a caged chicken? Of course not. That's why I firmly believe that caged chickens should be banned.

One of the main reasons why chickens shouldn't be caged is that they get squashed. Out of 2.3 million chickens, 82% of these are caged. Each hen has a space the size of an A4 piece of paper to move around and live its entire life.

In one shed of chickens, there are 45,000 caged birds… that is similar to the total population of Gisborne in one shed.

My second main point is that caged chickens easily catch diseases. They get fatty liver disease, they get rickets and they have little to no vitamin D. They also get osteoporosis which is severe brittleness of their bones.

These diseases are only a few of the many other diseases they may have due to poor care and little space within their cages.

My third main point is that caged chickens cannot go outside and to behave naturally and freely as birds should. Chickens should be able to explore, run and move as they please. They should be able to flap their wings and stretch their legs, scratch and peck for their own food, to be able to perch or have a dust bath, but they cannot - and this is cruel!

Cages are stopping them from having a comfortable place to roam and be healthy. They live under stress their entire lives. Most of them even end up dying at 18 months old {which is terribly sad}.

....So what can we do about this? We can all make the choice. We can all choose to buy only Free Range chicken products and stop cruelty to chickens. Please make the change today and every day!

In conclusion I believe that caged chickens should be banned. Because of the many awful and unhealthy diseases they get, because they can't behave and be comfortable like chickens should, and they get squashed in their poor living environments.
I strongly ask you to rethink the next time you purchase chicken products including meat or eggs - to choose only, cage free or free range.

Thank you for listening to my speech.

Climate change

In Room 1 we have been doing persuasive writing. In week 5 we did it on children under 12 should be allowed a phone. Then in week 6 we did it on caged chickens should be banned and now this week we were doing it on climate change. Make sure you check those out too if you haven't already. I enjoyed learning new facts but I found it hard to get heaps of facts that I understood. Here is my one!

Climate change
What is climate change and what is it doing to our planet? Climate change is different to Global warming. Climate change is when you have more sun, more rain, hail, snow and wind. Global warming is when the globe gently gets warmer.

My first main point is the Amazon Forest is being cut down and this year the Amazon Forest is burning more than ever. The Amazon rainforest is known as the earth's lungs because it holds 20% of the earth's oxygen. The Amazon Forest is home to millions of species of plants and millions of tribes. The fires are burning these animals and plants habitats.

My second main point is glaciers are melting. You're probably thinking “Who cares that glaciers and melting?” Well you should because sea levels rise and it will flood the low land and sea temperatures are rising.

My last main point is about fossil fuels. The fossil fuels are letting too much CO2 out which is carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are letting out too much for air like coal, oil and diesel. I'm giving you some things you could do. Try going by bus and getting the whole family to do the same, walk whenever you can instead of driving, get your bike out instead of driving, plant trees or reduce reuse and recycle.

In conclusion, I believe we should try to stop climate change because the Amazon Forest is dying, the glaciers are melting and fossil fuels are letting out too much hot air.

Sploosh

In Room 1 we have been reading a book called Holes. Mrs Naden made a reading task and it was to make a poster advertising Sploosh or a foot odour cure. I enjoyed making the google slide but I found it difficult to remember how to put the slide on my blog. Next time I would do it on a foot odour cure.

Maths Quiz

In Room 1 we have been doing a maths quiz for cybersmart. I enjoyed making up the problems but I found it difficult to post it onto my blog in time. If I did this again I would change who I'm doing it about. I did mine about Alex Morgan she is a famous soccer player. I did it on basic facts.

Amazon Rainforest

In Room 1 we have been reading about the Amazon Rainforest wildfires. We did a google drawing on the Amazon Rainforest fires. I enjoyed making the google drawing. I found it challenging to put it on my blog If I did it again I would do it on a google slide to animate it so the fires chasing the animals.

Caged chickens should be banned

In Room 1 we have been learning how to structure. We were writing about children under 12 should be allowed a phone and this time we wrote about caged chickens. Our success criteria was Write a title that tells the reader about the issue being argued, use a rhetorical question, write an introduction that includes my three main points, organise my ideas into paragraphs, make sure each paragraph has a main point and two examples, write a conclusion that includes my three main points, edit for
spelling and punctuation and present my work to a pair for assessment. Here is my one.

Would you like to be a caged chicken? Of course not. That's why  I firmly believe that caged chickens should be banned.

One of the main reasons why chickens shouldn't be caged is that they get squashed there are 82% chickens caged out of 2.3 million. Each hen has a space of an A4 piece of paper. In one shed of chickens there are 4.5,000 caged.

My second name point is that they get diseases. They get fatty liver disease. They get rickets / no vitamin D. They also get osteoporosis.

My third name point is that they can't act  natural they can't stretch for food they can't have a dust bath. they can't perch. They can't flap their wings will stretch their legs. They can't fly. They can't build a nest. They can't peck. They can even end up dying at 18 months old.

In conclusion I believe that caged chickens should be banned. Because they get diseases, they can't act natural and they get squashed.

Interdependence

Today in Rm 1 we have been learning about Interdependence. I enjoyed making the google drawing. I found it challenging to get the right screencastify. My digital learning object shows I can use google drawing and screencastify to explain Interdependence. Next time I would change what I was describing because I found other animals I could have written about.

Tom Fedro

In Room 1 we have been doing art like Tom Fedro. Tom Fedro is an artist in Chicago. I enjoyed making new colours by mixing but I found it difficult to blend the colours. Our success criteria was to use both sides of the paintbrush, to use bright colours, to use bold lines and to use tints and shades to show light direction. I have put an image of what my Tom Fedro art looks like.

Summer

In Room 1 we have been doing descriptive writing. I enjoyed voice typing but I found describing the wind difficult.

Outside, the refreshing warm beach was calm. Boiling soft sand glimmered in the sun. The cool breeze was still. As I ran in the house, I still heard the calm beach, saw the glimmering sand and felt the cool breeze blowing on my back.

Science fair

For the past three weeks we have been doing a science fair. I enjoyed doing the experiment but I found writing about the experiment was hard.

Mix it up

Why do some ingredients disappear when you mix them together why don't others? There is two substance that cannot be chemically combined if you put Iron filings with Sandro you can remove it with a magnet. Then if you add water to the Raro and sand, the sand will think and the Raro will float. Then put a paper filter and get a cup. And the sand and will stay in the club paper flu filter. To get the row back to Crystal you keep it in a container in the sun for it to evaporate.

Rock Climbing

During our visit to Wellington, my family and I visited the waterfront and we came across a place to go rock climbing. My dad made sure I was safe by giving me a special harness and keeping the rope attached to me.  I first climbed the beginner wall which was colourful with animal artwork. Then I went on a real rock wall. This one was a little harder and it had a small cave in the middle. I made it to the cave. After that, I went on a much harder climb. The climb was still on a real rock wall and it was overhanging at the ceiling. I made it all the way to the top and the overhang was really tricky. Sometimes I fell off the wall but I was safe because my dad had put the harness around me and the rope kept me securely hanging. The last one I went on, I had seen two other girls try it before, but they couldn't get to the top.   When I got to try it, I made it to the top! It seemed like it was going to be hard but it wasn't as hard as I thought.  At the end of the day my muscles were aching and I was tired but it was totally worth it. If I ever did it again, I would try a much harder one. I loved it.

Wellington Zoo

Wellington Zoo During the holidays my family and I went to Wellington. We visited the Wellington Zoo and it was awesome. We saw baby otters, kiwis in the dark, red pandas, lions and giraffes - one of them had lost an eye because it had an infection. We also saw shingleback lizards and pinecones that my mum thought were shingleback lizards, haha! I got up close to a cheetah and my little brain was about to explode! We saw a sun bear, a tiger and a small family of monkeys. The monkeys were really, really funny. One of them tried to eat my sister’s apple. We went to the Creatures HQ and saw four different species of scorpions, a few less species of tarantula, a snake and enormous grasshoppers. We saw African houses and one of the houses was a bedroom, one was a kitchen and one was a classroom with drums. At the end my mum took a photo of me against a glass bottle wall to learn about recycling. I felt like our zoo trip was worth it even though I was tired.
